Abstract
Human population growth and technological advances increase the energy demand. The global supply of nonrenewable fuels is progressively diminishing. This is a global problem that requires a quick and accurate solution. Indonesia, as a developing country, continues to face substantial difficulties in delivering reliable electricity to rural and remote regions. In particular, Tambrauw Regency in Papua Island experiences severe power instability due to an inadequate number of power generation facilities. Existing diesel generators are insufficient to meet the increasing energy demands of a growing customer base. Moreover, the cost of fuel in Tambrauw is exceptionally high. According to Pertamina, the state-owned enterprise responsible for fuel distribution in Indonesia, the price of solar diesel ranges between USD 1 and 2 per liter. Moreover, frequent power outages, often lasting more than ten hours, are commonly reported and are primarily caused by mechanical failures or network disruptions. There are even frequent rotating blackouts caused by damage to the machines or the network in each area for more than ten hours. The geographical location is difficult to reach and very far from both the provincial capital and especially the national capital. The utilization of local renewable energy, such as PV, is one of the alternative solutions. This study aims to optimize the utilization of PV and existing diesel with HOMER software to supply each load based on predicted the electricity load profile of Tambrauw. The results show that the configuration of PV, diesel, and battery is the best combination, consisting of 2.57 kW PV, 100 kW diesel, and 3 battery units with an NPC value of 43675 and a COE value of 0.822/kWh. With these results, it will be able to meet the electricity energy needs of Tambrauw Regency. © 2025 IEEE.
