Abstract

The optimization of cable routing in mediumvoltage networks is a crucial factor in improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of wind farm development. This paper proposes a modified Prim's Algorithm that incorporates topographical constraints and introduces intermediate splice nodes to optimize cable layout between wind turbines and substations. Using a graph-based approach, the algorithm avoids restricted areas and calculates the shortest feasible cable routes. Simulations conducted under various wind turbine configurations show that the modified algorithm reduces total cable length and improves network connectivity compared to conventional methods. The results highlight the potential of the proposed method for enhancing energy distribution efficiency and reliability in renewable energy systems. This approach is adaptable to other renewable infrastructures such as solar power networks and microgrids, supporting global efforts toward sustainable energy solutions. © 2025 IEEE.
