Remote Sensing for Settlement Demand Projection and Availability Analysis in Sewon District

Sewon District as a peri-urban area has a population that continues to grow every year. This will have an impact on the increasing demand for settlement land. The increase in settlement land in Sewon District can continue to grow and cause the unavailability of settlement land that has been determined in the spatial pattern plan that has been set by the government. The purposes of this paper are to (1) estimate the demand for settlement land in the Sewon District in 2038 using SPOT-7 imagery; (2) analyze the settlement demand against the availability of settlement land that has been determined in the spatial pattern plan of the Sewon District in 2018-2038. The SPOT-7 imagery was processed using a visual interpretation method to produce information on settlement blocks and the number of settlements. Projection of population in 2038 with arithmetic method needs to be done to project settlement demand in 2038. The results shows that the demand for settlement in Pendowoharjo Village is 191.74 hectares, Timbulharjo Village is 170.54 hectares, Bangunharjo Village is 186.87 hectares, and Panggungharjo Village is 195.05 hectares. This demand can be fulfilled by the area of settlement land in the 2018-2038 Sewon District spatial pattern plan. © 2025 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
