Abstract

SLR has become a global and worldwide issue. However, its effects on shorelines, which depend on local variability and coastal geomorphology, make it necessary to monitor these impacts on a local scale. Not only observing shoreline shifting, this study also aims to evaluate the performance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in assessing shoreline change and its SLR in Karawang Regency. Using statistical models provided by QSCAT Plugin, we analyze SLR contribution to shoreline displacement activities along Karawang. Several models which are Net shoreline movement (NSM), End Point Rate (EPR), and Linear Regression Rate (LRR), are employed to measure the shoreline shifting and its change rates. The patterns of change rates are examined to determine the intercorrelation between SLR and dynamics of shoreline displacement using correlation coefficients. Results show AWEI SH is the most performed water index for extracting shoreline in Kawarang coastal. This area experiences accretion in over 51 of the area while erosion in about 40, but the shoreline change's correlation with the SLR events is misaligned. The finding also highlights different spatial quality and number of data inputs don't have significant effects on LRR accuracy. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
