Effects of Social Characteristics and Perceived Vaccination Benefits on Beef Cattle Farmers Satisfaction with Foot-and-Mouth Disease Vaccination Services

This study aimed to identify the social factors and perceptions influencing farmers’ satisfaction with foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccination services. Using a survey method, data were collected from 120 beef cattle farmers who had participated in the government-led FMD vaccination programme in Sleman Regency. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to assess the determinants of satisfaction. The results showed that participation in informal education (P < 0.01), membership in farmer groups (P < 0.05), and positive perceptions of vaccination benefits (P < 0.01) were significant contributors to higher satisfaction levels. Farmers who actively engaged in livestock-related education, were members of organized farmer groups, and perceived the FMD vaccination as beneficial reported greater appreciation and acceptance of the programme. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening informal education, supporting farmer group networks, and improving communication about vaccination benefits to enhance the effectiveness and acceptance of animal health initiatives in rural communities. © 2025 by the authors.
