Abstract

Chapter Summary This chapter underscores the vital role of faculty as agents of change in Socially Accountable Medical Education (SAME) in general and sociallay accountable medical schools in particular. Recognizing that faculty empowerment extends beyond traditional development programs, it requires cultural shifts within institutions to foster adaptability, interdisciplinary approaches, and responsiveness to societal needs. The chapter introduces nine core areas essential for faculty empowerment, explores the Primary Healthcare Approach (PHC) and the Indicators for Social Accountability Tool (ISAT) as strategic frameworks. These elements illustrate how deliberate faculty empowerment strategies can align education, research, and service with community health needs, ultimately driving the mission of medical schools. © 2025 The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
