Abstract
The increasing use of electric vehicles (EVs) has been encouraged by many nations globally to address the problems brought on by the energy crisis and global warming. However, there are several disadvantages to EVs such as the limitations of the onboard energy storage. To address this issue, another energy storage system (ESS) with high power density is required to form a hybrid energy storage system (HESS). Besides the topology, the component sizing and energy management strategy (EMS) is important for HESS EV. The Motor Vehicle Challenge (MVC) 2024 challenges the participant to propose the best EMS to minimize the objective function provided. The winner is the lowest objective function value. The simple EMS, Robust Low-Pass Filter (RLPF), which is the combination of LPF, rule-based, and feedback control is proposed for MVC 2024. The reduction of the final score for training and verification is 47.58, and 61.93, respectively, compared to the base MVC method. © 2024 IEEE.
