Abstract

Post-resection intussusception is extremely rare, and the diagnosis is often missed because the symptoms are atypical. Intussusception symptoms after intestinal resection are due to the influence of several factors and medications. We present a case report of a 6-month-old boy with a rare retrograde intussusception after resection of Meckel diverticulitis, underwent relaparotomy-manual reduction, and was released from the hospital in good health. The postoperative small bowel resection needs to be closely observed for the possibility of intussusception. Signs of upper intestinal obstruction, bilious vomiting, inability to flatus, and loose stools are found. Sonograms and CT scans have high accuracy in post-bowel resection intussusception. Adhesions, altered anatomy, and bowel narrowing due to anastomosis are crucial factors that impair motility after resection. © 2024 Universiti Putra Malaysia Press. All rights reserved.
