Abstract

A study of thermal shock resistance of clay/copper-zinc composite membranes was presented. The conventional quenching technique by immersion in water was used to evaluate the thermal shock behavior of pressureless sintered clay/copper-zinc composite membranes. The influence of the thermal shock on the strengthening response of clay/copper-zinc composites has been investigated by measuring the flexural strength and microstructural changes. The magnitude of the flexural strength of clay/copper-zinc composites has been compared with the ceramic composite without copper-zinc under the same experimental conditions. The results show that the flexural strength of clay/copper-zinc composites have increased up to 30 vol.% copper-zinc additions. While the thermal shock resistance of 10-30 vol.% copper-zinc addition for all numbers of quenching cycles have decreased.
