Abstract
This dissertation analyses the role of communication actors in the eye-donor program in Manislor Village, which has the highest number of prospective eye donors in Indonesia, with 1,715 residents out of a total of 4,676. Using the communication ethnographic method, this research was conducted through observation and in-depth interviews with informants selected by purposive sampling. The results show that there are four categories of interdependent communication actors: regulatory actors (village heads), support actors (eye banks, local radio, and the Indonesian Eye Donor Community), service actors (medical personnel), and mobilization actors (religious leaders and the Ahmadiyah Muslim community). This study provides insights into the success of the eye-donation program in Manislor Village, which is supported by effective interconnection and collaboration between actors in the social system. The built social network structure plays an important role in disseminating information and building public awareness to participate in eye-donation programs. © 2024 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
