Abstract

The increasing population and life expectancy of the elderly is accompanied by ageing problems that can affect their quality of life, such as physical and mental health. This research was conducted in the Sleman Regency, and aims to determine the differences in the quality of life of the elderly based on the level of their independence. This research is a quantitative study and uses the description research type with a non-probability sampling design. The results show that there is no difference in the quality of excellent and adverse physical and mental health based on the independence of the elderly in carrying out their activities. Further, there is a significant difference in the quality of physical health based on the independence of the elderly in carrying out activities in their environment. However, there is no significant difference in the quality of mental health in the elderly in carrying out activities in their environment. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
