The impact of the industrial revolution in Europe spread to the island of Java resulting in an industrial cultural heritage including the establishment of a number of sugar factories in Pemalang since the period of the forced cultivation system. The purpose of writing this article is to reveal, record, and preserve traces of the industrial revolution that once existed in Pemalang as historical
documentation. The research was conducted with a historical approach by tracing historical sources heuristically, both primary and secondary. The results reveal that Pemalang is a potential area as a sugar factory location with the establishment of four sugar factories. Pemalang is even an area that has contributed 40% of sugar exports to the total sugar production in Java. The influence of European culture and local culture is recorded, both in the architecture of the factory buildings to the traditions during harvest time. Attention to preserving the industrial heritage that once played a role in the Indonesian economy is very important. The current condition is that the buildings of the two sugar factories cannot be traced, while the existing sugar factory buildings have been damaged.
