Abstract

Fuel cells are being utilized as new power generators that convert chemical energy into electricity during electrochemical processes. A proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is planned as a power generator to supply power at 10 kW 210 - 240 V AC for Indonesian household applications, with a voltage supply from the PEMFC at 72 V DC. MATLAB was used to compute and simulate several aspects of the fuel cells to achieve their performance based on the governing equations. The performance analysis shows the universal characteristics of single cells. The design of the fuel cell is based on an operating temperature of 343.15 K with a nominal power of 0.32 W/cm2, cell voltage of 0.668 V, and current density of 0.48 A/cm2. Based on this study, The PEMFC was designed to have a peak power of 16.2 kilowatts (kW), with a buck converter to achieve the target. This designed value is suitable for PEMFC as power generator. © 2025 IEEE.
