Abstract

Acute diarrhoe anong children is still a major pro-blens in Indonesia, it could cause dehydration as well as growth impairment and nutrition problem.
Because there were not always available complate oral rehydration fluid (according to WHD recommendation) at every household an for diarrhoe children with mild dehy dration, most of then reject the complate oral rehydra tion, may be caused of it's taste, by using hone resources such as, porridge (rise meal, egg. salts) and banane. ought to be observe it's advantage as oral rehydration fluid and also as diet therapy.
Sixty children with acute diarrhoe of mild and modera-te dehydration were studied. Their age were 6 to 36 month ss out patients care in oral rehydration room Dept of Child Health Dr Sardjito General Hospital during October 1988 until March 1989.
The patients were devided into two groups, the first group received soft water porridge (rice nesi, og salts) and banana, the second group received oralit recommended by WHO (6/1-NaCl 3,5, NaHCO3 2.5, ECL: 1.5 Glucose 25).
Clinical evidence evaluated for four hours were increase of body weight, the grade of dehydration, total fluid consumption, frequency of defecation, stool consis tency, frequency of micturation, hagnatocrate, and also evaluated for blood level of E. Na and blood glucose level a random.
The clinical result showed that increase of body weight, grade of dehydration, total fluid consumption. blood level of K, Na, Glucose, and haematocrate between two groups were not significantly differences statisti-cally (p>0,05). Mean while frequency of defecation between two groups were significantly differences (p<0,05)
