Abstract
Sempu Village, located in Ngancar Sub-district, Kediri Regency, is one of the key pineapple-producing areas in East Java. The high level of pineapple production in this sub-district not only impacts the local economy but also significantly influences the regional and national levels. Pineapple farming in the area is shaped by various geographical, economic, social, and cultural factors, each presenting unique challenges. As such, understanding the value chain of pineapple farming in Ngancar Sub-district is crucial for identifying potential improvements and development opportunities. This study aims to assess the current state of pineapple farming and analyze the variations in the value chain patterns of pineapple production in Sempu Village. The research employs both quantitative and qualitative methods, with a sample of 70 farmers selected for observation and interviews. The findings reveal that, despite challenges such as limited land, pineapple farming in Sempu Village holds significant potential for supporting farmers' livelihoods. Farmers engage in diversified farming activities, including the cultivation of other commodities, as a strategy to mitigate risks. While the dominance of middlemen in marketing is a concern, pineapple farmers generally exhibit self-reliance in managing their value chain, which can strengthen their livelihoods. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing.
