Abstract

Synthesis of 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid (THBA)-intercalated Mg/Al-LDH had been conducted. THBA-intercalated Mg/Al-LDH was synthesized by co-assembly process of THBA anions and Mg/Al-LDH sheets. THBA-Mg/AlLDH was characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). X-ray diffraction result showed that the THBA-Mg/Al-LDH has the lattice parameter of a = 3.04 Å, c = 39.3 Å and basal spacing d003 = 13.1 Å. The result of characterization with XRD pattern show that Au(III) has been reduced to Au(0) with the appearance of the gold metal characteristic peak at 2θ = 37.4∘; 43.6∘; 63.9∘; and 76.9∘. It was revealed that hydroxyl groups of TBHA played important role for reduction Au(III) to Au(0). Characterization using SEM showed that the Mg/Al-LDH-THBA have irregular agglomerate shaped.
