Abstract
The electrohydrodynamics phenomenon of nematic
liquid crystals in parallelepiped sandwich cells has been
successfully investigated. The results show hierarchical patterns
include the Williams Domain (WD), which moves uniformly from
the edge to the center of the cell (called translational
flow)─fluctuating Williams Domain (FWD)─grid pattern
(GP)─dynamic scattering mode (DSM). The phase diagram
shows that the threshold voltage of each pattern increases
exponentially with frequency. It correlates with the
electrohydrodynamic phenomenon in the low-frequency region.
The translational flow velocity in the Y-segment has also been
calculated. It shows random values in the range of 0.04─0.1
micrometer per second.
