Deradicalization encompasses two distinct levels of intervention: the internal realm of an individual, which involves addressing their mindset and beliefs, and the external sphere that encompasses the broader societal factors such as the education system and governmental structures. Within the formal educational setting, schools wield considerable influence in shaping individuals’ perceptions and interpretations of the information circulating within their communities, potentially leading them toward radicalization and extremism. Consequently, peace education emerges as a potent tool in fostering resilience against radicalization. This chapter endeavors to expound on the significant contribution of peace communication to the process of deradicalization and draws upon examples from Indonesia and Pakistan, showcasing how peace communication serves as an active countermeasure against radicalization and what lessons can be learnt. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Stacey L.
