The characteristics of lightning and rainfall in Padang from 2019 to 2020 have been statistically analyzed. The study results using an electric field mill (EFM) found that the highest lightning occurred from March to May. In addition, the highest rainfall occurred in January, March, and December. Furthermore, it was also found that there are different patterns between lightning and rain. Peak lightning and rainfall occurred in April and March, respectively. The amount of rainfall does not show a systematic pattern with the frequency of lightning. We have calculated the Pearson correlation coefficient for this period and found a positive correlation between daily rainfall and daily lightning activity (r=0.016) for rainfall over 10mm. © 2024 Author(s).
