Abstract

Until now very little is known about the pattern and the mobility behaviour of people in Java. Most of the previous studies are emphasized on internal migration and ignore the study of non permanent movement. The reason of the concentration of emphasis seems to be that the pioneer.
Element has been closely tied to government and popular concern with over population in Java and it has been advocated as a means of alleviating pressure in Java.
This paper contains the preliminary results of the study of the population mobility in Yogyakarta Special Region, which was held from May 19, 1975 until January 31, 1976. The aim of the study survey is to study the pattern and the mobility behaviour of people in these two dukuhs. In short, the study is concerned with two aspects of population movement, that is, the spatial aspect and the behavioural aspect. To focus upon the movements of the individual as a particle in a space which has different manifestations in movement over space. Each individual has certain needs to be satisfied, certain aspirations to be realized, and certain roles to be performed. In fulfilling those needs, aspirations and roles, each individual moves in certain ways within the universe of space and time.
